Designing in Tamil on Canva is simple once you understand how Tamil typing and fonts work. Many beginners think Tamil cannot be typed directly in Canva, but with a small process you can easily create Tamil designs, posters, or social media graphics. Follow these three steps.
Step 1: Type Tamil Using a Tamil Typing Tool
First, you need to type your Tamil text. If you are comfortable typing directly in Tamil keyboard layouts, you can use tools like NHM Writer or Azhagi+. These tools allow you to type Tamil easily on your computer.
If you do not know Tamil keyboard typing, the easiest method is Thanglish typing. In this method you type Tamil words using English letters (for example: vanakkam), and the tool converts it into Tamil script (வணக்கம்). You can use any online Tamil typing converter for this.
If you already have a Tamil document ready, you can simply skip this step and move to the next one.
Step 2: Convert the Font Format
Tamil text can exist in different font formats such as Unicode, Senthamil, or Bamini. Sometimes you may type in Unicode but your design requires another format like Senthamil.
In that case, use a Tamil font converter tool. Paste your text in the converter, choose the source format (for example Unicode), and select the output format you need (like Senthamil or Bamini). The tool will instantly convert the text to the correct format.
This step is important because some Tamil fonts only work properly with specific encoding formats.
Step 3: Upload the Tamil Font to Canva
Finally, download the Tamil font you want to use (for example Senthamil or Bamini). Then open Canva, go to Brand Kit → Upload Fonts, and upload the font file.
Once uploaded, open your design, paste the Tamil text, and select the uploaded font from the font list. Your Tamil text will now appear correctly in your design.
